i found a super-8 at a pawn shop for five bucks. so i bought it. no manual. it is a keystone K810... but i havent found info on it on any of the sites ive been to (i live in a rather small town, so resources are kind of dry around here). does kodak film work for all kinds of cameras? what does that big screw do? how old is this thing, anyway? im lost but im goin ta make a movie, consarn it all... if anyone can help me ill love ya forever.
    thanks,

The first thing i would do is open up the battery compartment. Check to see if there are any old caroded batteries inside, if there are then you'll have to clean up the connections. Then i would pop in some batteries to see if it works. so far so good?

Super 8 film comes in cartridges, all you have to do is pop the film in, no threading necessary. You can get a pritty good selection (all things considered) from Kodak. Tri-X, and Plus-X are black and white film, everything else is color. You can get a cartridge of Tri-X for under ten bucks. Cartridges come in 50ft. rolls.

Super 8 cameras were first made in the 70's, and are no longer made. Sound film is another thing that is pritty much obsolete. Sound film is very hard to come by, and very expensive.

As far as the big screw goes . . . where is it? I hope i've been somewhat of a help. I'm not too familiar with your camera. Happy shooting. Check out Mike Brantley's web pages on super8 filmmaking, and www.kodak.com.

    Wink

i put in new batteries and lo and behold, we have contact! the shutter works, the film thingey spins, and it makes glorious noise. i think i figured out what the big screw does... you take the handle off, unscrew the screw, and voila! its tripod time. i have high hopes that the button then revealed is capable of stop-motion camera clickin'. now im gonna go film shoppin. is soooo exciting!
thank you so much for your reply... i feel incredibly capable as we speak.
    wish me luck! biggrinkirsi
